What size should my photo be when entering?
In order to be suitable for publication, photographs that are submitted must be of high resolution in JPEG (.jpg) format. The file needs to be a minimum 2000 pixels on longest side for website uploads and a maximum 3500 pixels at max 10MB in size. Winners of the competition may be contacted to supply larger format images if available for exhibition purposes. NOTE: Large files may take some time to load, depending on your internet speed – please be patient when uploading.
How many photo’s can I enter into the competition?
A maximum of 4 photos per category for each entrant
When will the winners be announced?
At this stage we are hoping to announce the winners by Saturday 27th May 2023. Entrants who have placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd will be notified by email and a phone call using the details disclosed on the entry form so that they may attend the awards announcement if they wish. The winners’ names and their winning entry will also be published on this website, the Local Land Services Western Region and Western Landcare NSW websites and Facebook pages.
What is the People’s Choice Award?
The People’s Choice award will be awarded to the photograph with the most votes using likes on our Facebook page.
How do I vote?
Voting can be done by liking images posted on our Facebook page.
What are the prizes?
Prizes will be awarded as set out for each category to winners, second place and third place. ‘See Prize Money Details’
Who will select the winners?
The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. The judging panel comprises a Western Local Land Services nominee, a Western Landcare NSW nominee and a professional photographer.
How do I submit my photographs?
Photographs can be submitted by clicking the ‘Upload Photo’ link and entering the details provided in the upload form. You will automatically be registered for the competition when you upload your first photograph and will receive an email with registration details. This will include your log-in for adding additional photos at a later date and checking the approval process.
What is my account login?
Your login details will be sent to you once you register or register by uploading your first image. PLEASE CHECK YOUR SPAM FOLDER if your registration email is not received.
What if I have forgotten my password?
‘Visit the lost password page’ and enter the email address associated with your account. After entering the email address, click the Get New Password button. Once you have entered a valid email address, WordPress will send an email to the email address associated with that account. It will also show you “Check your e-mail for the confirmation link” notification on the login screen. Check your email inbox, there will be an email with the subject Life & Light Photography Competition Password Reset. Wait for a few minutes if you do not immediately see the email in your inbox. If you still do not see an email, then check your Spam or Junk Mail folder. When you receive the email click on the link to reset your password. This link will take you back to our website and will allow you to enter a new password for your account. First enter a new password and then repeat the same new password in “Confirm New Password” field. Once you have entered a password, press the Reset password button. You will see a notification “Your password has been reset. Log in”. Click on “Login” link to sign in to your account using the new password.
How do I log-in to submit additional photographs?
Photographs will not displayed publicly until our judges have approved the photo for display on the If you wish to submit additional images at a later date, log-in by selecting the ‘Your Images’ link. Enter your login details in the form provided and you will then have access to your previous images and can upload new images using the same account.
My photo is still ‘Waiting for approval’. What does this mean?
Photographs will not displayed publicly until our judges have approved the photo for display on the website. Photographs will generally be approved within 1-3 days of submission. If the judges do not consider the Photograph suitable for the competition it will not be approved and will remain pending approval or deactivated.
Can I enter if I live outside Australia?
Yes, however photographs must have been taken from within the Western Region of NSW Australia. Photographs must be considered by the judges to be consistent with the theme and rules outline.
Can photographs be cropped?
Yes – cropped photographs are eligible.
Do you accept B&W photographs?
Yes. Also, colour photographs changed to black and white are acceptable for submission.
What rights to my Photograph do I retain?
The copyright of each entry submitted remains with the photographer, however, Western Local Land Services and Western Landcare NSW reserve the right to use any entry for promotional purposes. Each sponsor reserves the right to use any entry submitted to their corresponding category.
Do I require a release form for people in my photo?
If you are selected as a winner and have people included in your photo, competition organisers will provide an appropriate release form and you will be asked to submit the release at that time.
