Description: My first night in Broken Hill, it did not disappoint. ‘The Big Bench’ although its now an ornamental one has one of the best sunset views in town.. a family friend of mine had the clean up contract to prepare that great slag heap in the middle of town for the line of load memorial, Cafe, and of course the great bench.. this pile of rubble is the remains of one of the biggest silver deposits around.. and a great spot to see the pinnacles.. especially at Sunset. Although a pile of dirt, the slag Heap is a gigantic reminder of the mining heritage that spans all the way back to the days of Silverton’s glory days!
